Golders Green Hotel
Planning consent secured for the regeneration of a rundown and complex site in central Golders Green into a carefully designed 130-bedroom hotel, incorporating the locally listed Refectory Pub.

Project Snapshot
This project will metamorphose a rundown and challengingly shaped site used for parking, a car wash, pub, small hotel and a semi-detached house into a well-designed 130-bedroom hotel; a stone’s throw from Golders Green underground station. The scheme’s design was complicated by a dislike of high rise in the vacinity, the locally listed Refectory Pub and Valve House, and the physical shape of the site. The new 130-bedroom hotel will provide good quality accommodation in an area poorly supplied with hotel spaces. It will link a modern building with the listed former pub to provide guest rooms in buildings carefully crafted to fit into the locality.Terrapin’s role was to explain the scheme and its economic benefit through engaging with local stakeholders and politicians, while alleviating concerns about potential social change. This included a public exhibition event, individual stakeholder meetings and engaging with the locally elected representatives and Barnet Council. Terrapin conveyed the local opinion to the client and design team, who responded well to suggestions and worked well with planning officers. The hard work was rewarded with a unanimous vote in favour of granting planning consent at Barnet Council’s planning committee.
